The same square mile of sand that brought you Black Flag, Descendents, Circle Jerks and Pennywise now brings you 98 MUTE.
Formed in Hermosa Beach in 1994, 98 Mute consists of four completely different personalities. About the only thing they can agree on is playing loud, fast music.
Since their inception, 98 Mute has become well established within thepunk rock scene. Their unofficial manager, producer, booking agent and all-around bully is none other than their good friend Fletcher from PENNYWISE. With the help of Fletch and others, 98 Mute has escaped the confines of Hermosa Beach, California. They have had successful North American tours with Pennywise, Blink-182, H20, Murphy's Law, and punk legends G.B.H. 98 Mute also had a full-time slot on the 1997 & 1999 Vans' WAPRED TOURS. In 1999, they were also part of Epitaph's PUNK-O-RAMA tour.
98 Mute's self-titled debut was released in 1996 on Theologian Records and received favorable reviews across the board. The 'Mute has been described as old school punk with new school qualities, and vice-versa. Their music is intense, yet melodic punk rock and their lyrics are thought-provoking, personal, and sometimes humorous.
1998 brought Class Of '98, the sophomore album from 98 Mute. "Class of '98" showed improvement and maturity, which made for a fast & furious record that will get even the most jaded punkers slamming.
98 Mute's music has been used on many surf, skate, and snow videos- including Taylor Steele's two recent efforts, "GOOD TIMES" and "THE SHOW." Their songs have also been on many punk compilations, including "PUNK BITES 2," "THE SHOW" soundtrack, and Epitaph's "PUNK-O-RAMA."
Look for 98 Mute's long anticipated new full-length album, Slow Motion Riot, slotted for a Spring release on Epitaph Records.
